Sometimes I worry about my lifelong interest in dance… because what began as an enjoyable pastime has changed into much more of an all-consuming passion. Don’t get me wrong, I’m certainly not complaining about my love for Burlesque dancing… it’s just that I have to rein it in a bit sometimes. You see, I’m quite likely to ‘get rhythmic'at any time of the day and this is not always appropriate. But then again, you have to draw the line somewhere, don’t you? If you didn’t, then there would be suggestive dancing going on everywhere you went; around office furniture London showrooms, amongst the dining tables in motorway service stations and even beside ticket machines in Pay and Display car parks…

Of course, most guys wouldn’t have any problem with any of this at all. After all, I’ve never yet heard a man whining about ‘having'to watch a scantily clad lady gyrating across the floor! However, if we did have Burlesque dancing going on all over the place, then precious little else would ever get done…

And just imagine how many accidents it could cause: – There would be numerous pranged vehicles because of ‘Inner City Burlesque’, goods knocked over/dropped due to ‘Supermarket Dancing'and pedestrian collisions caused by ‘Road Sign Pole Dancers’… Oh, it could cause all manner of different problems!

No, I think I’ll just have to keep on controlling myself (as boring as it may seem) with my passion for dance. The world simply isn’t quite prepared for ‘Twenty Four Seven Burlesque’! Mind you, I still think it would make things a lot more interesting… And just imagine how much more exciting it would be to watch our MPs in The House of Commons if they had their very own troupe of dancers to keep everyone entertained!

Are you bored with your looks or just find those traditional jewellery items too heavy, cumbersome, or just plain old-fashioned? Navel piercings are attractive, trendy, and sexy enough to add some additional oomph to your appearance.

Here are few general tips about how to go about your navel piercing such that it remains safe, pain-free, and beautiful.

• Like all piercings it does hurt but generally causes a bearable amount of pain. How much pain you suffer is often dependent on your tolerance more than anything else. So, be prepared for some temporary pain when you are planning a navel piercing
• After-piercing care is equally important. Although your piercer will guide you on how to take post-piercing care, you should be careful not letting it come in contact with dust, dirt, salt, strong soap etc.

• If you notice some swelling on your belly button, do not panic as it is quite normal to have some swelling that subsides usually in a day. In order to stop further inflammation you can take an anti-inflammatory medicine, such as ibuprofen.
• Sometimes you may also notice some whitish/yellowish discharge from your piercing, which is often normal. If it doesn’t stop, you should call your piercer to know if there is any infection. Otherwise, you can just clean it with a clean, disinfected piece of cloth.
• Of course, the decision of choosing a piercer is the first and the most important one. You should consider going for a piercing only at a place where sterilized and hygienic instruments are used, and which is also kept clean even if it means paying a higher price than the cheaper and dirtier places. You can find them in good women magazines, newspapers, or even at the display stands in your town.

I had a really bad few days the other week; a couple of people at my office got made redundant, I lost my mobile phone and all the numbers in it and I was having an absolute nightmare trying to find a decent quote for horse insurance. I was a big ball of stress and tension and my poor boyfriend was definitely bearing the brunt of my bad mood. He tried his best, bless him, to try and cheer me up – cooking dinner and fetching me my favourite muffins from the bakery near his office – but when I’m feeling that low there’s only one thing that can cheer me up; Fred and Ginger.

It was watching all the old Fred and Ginger musicals with my Grandma as a kid that got me into dancing. I used to copy all the routines in their living room wearing my pyjamas on a Saturday morning – I’d much rather have watched ’Top Hat’, ’Flying Down to Rio'or ’Shall We Dance'than all the weekend cartoons! Actually, I’d much rather have watched any musical than Tom and Jerry, but I always had a sift spot for the pure magic and romance of Fred and Ginger. Their movies were so perfect because they were all set in reality, but with an element of fantasy and imagination that takes your breath away the first time you see them and every time after that.

So, last week when I was having my major sulk and my boyfriend couldn’t do a thing right, I gave him a wee hint as to how he could help in cheering me and up and gain a few brownie points – sure enough, he returned from a trip to the supermarket with a copy of the 1938 classic ’Carefree'and suddenly everything was all sweetness and light again!

I wonder why people make such a big fuss about dancing. It is not as if we are not natural dances. How many times have you noticed that your heart starts beating fast when you hear really cool dancing music? How many times do you find yourself grinning when you see an individual or group of persons dancing in perfect sync?

This proves that you like dancing. If you like it, then you can easily do it. There was a time when you had to join dancing classes to learn how to dance. Today, you can learn how to dance from the comfort of your home. Just log on to the internet and check out numerous videos related to dancing.

You will be surprised at the numerous dance videos available on the web. If you want something more formal, you can check out dancing shows on the television. Combine the two and you will have the perfect recipe for dancing. If you are still not sure, just ask a family member to join you. This will convert the new venture into a really fun exercise. Not only will you learn how to dance, you will also have a great time with your family.

Old school glamour captivates me in a way that new school Hollywood starlets will never be able to emulate. Maybe it is the inherent element of nostalgia or the photographic memories in sepia hues, either way I am just fascinated with the first few ears that formed the turn of the twentieth century. Recently I was lucky enough to go for high tea at the Ritz held in the famous Palm Court that is opulently decorated and oozes glamour and reminded me of somewhere a glamorous lady of the twenties and thirties might have gone. The Ritz London is situated in Piccadilly and has majestic views over Green Park, it is a luxury 5 star hotel with a wonderful history and is truly captivating to visit. The waiter at our afternoon tea could not be more helpful, offering us scores of cake, crust less sandwiches and warm scones with pure fruit jam and divine clotted cream. The most fabulous thing about attending ‘Tea at the Ritz'was having the opportunity to get really dressed up in our most favourite outfits whilst the men wore their best 3 piece suits. So if you adore glitz and glamour ‘Tea at the Ritz'truly is an opportunity to not be missed, the whole experience including a day out in London makes for a fabulous birthday or special occasion treat for a loved one, we visited on my grandmothers 70^th birthday. White Collar, started not to long ago seemed to have a charismatic yet non-cliche’ed approach to the awfully handsome criminal who helps the bureau catch his own kind instead of him rotting away in jail. My expectations fooled me into believing that the main character Neal Caffery would turn out to be this charming yet annoying character with bad pick up lines and horrible acting, my foolish thoughts were soon turned away.
My doubts didn’t lay with the actor itself but it did with the character as I failed to understand why genuinely new breakthrough serials like White Collar, don’t seem to get the recognition they deserve. The acting is niche’and one of its kind, the directing is nothing new but it is enough – not too much not too less, no over doing and no under. The story and the plot of the story is intriguing and well held together. It takes not only a lay man to figure the plot in its own predictable demeanour but also takes a man with taste for twists to pick up how the story might unfurl. Hence that would be the only the director, thats what I enjoy, I throughly enjoyed the moments of suspense where our ill-fully trained mind will take the usual predictable path but not the plot.
All in all, throughly enjoyed it and I’ve only just begun. Score – 9/10 – the one point less would count only the direction, some new camera angles could be discovered.

Me, I am a huge fan of silver jewellery, which I feel sets off my hair, eyes and skin tone better than gold does. The shine and sheen of silver is entirely different from that of gold, like moonlight on water instead of sunshine on sand. To me it evokes night, shadows, twilight, mystery and romance. Lovely.

As I said, London is a superb place in which to find silver jewellery. At the most bargainy end of the market, there are the many car boot sales or jumble sales that take place every weekend throughout the city. Here you can find a lovely selection of cast off jewellery from the tacky and the tasteless to the gloriously glamorous. It is certainly pot luck, but by rummaging around on the tables and elbowing away the competition, it is possible to find some really beautiful pieces and some real bargains.

Then, of course, at the top end of the market are the achingly lovely, expensive, exclusive jewellery shops in the city centre, in Mayfair, Knightsbridge, Chelsea or the City. These are special occasion shops for me, but it is a treat to look forward to when the boyfriend wants to show his love or I need an extraordinary piece for a special show.

Usually I love getting up on stage and performing. I don’t know the meaning of the phrase “stage fright” and can’t understand it when my fellow performers start getting all nervous and shaky just before their show. If you hate showing off, then why on earth did you get into burlesque??

However, last weekend I was very nervous about going on stage. For one, I was trying out a new military-themed act, which was a little close to the bone in terms of humour, and for another the manager decided to “warn” me as I arrived that we had a stag night booked in. I immediately looked down at my bag and wished I’d invested in some military kit insurance for my outfit!

I’ve never understood why stag nights come to burlesque clubs. Well, actually that’s not true. I do know why they come, but I also know why they always leave disappointed! After all, we’re dancers, not lap-dancers, I never get completely naked during my act and I certainly never get down from the stage and offer to take the stag ’round the back'for a private show. I keep telling the club manager he should warn these guys what they’re booking in for, as they inevitably get bored and rowdy, spoiling it for the rest of the audience. I guess all he sees are the pound signs when someone calls up and say he wants to book a table for a stag do! The guys in the club last weekend were really putting away the pints, which certainly didn’t help when it came to the class of their heckling…

Most of my life is devoted to burlesque, but I do have plenty of other interests. I like to read, listen to music (though that kind of fits in with my dancing, so I don’t know if you’d count it as a separate hobby) and I love to travel. In fact, my life is one huge holiday, when you think of all the burlesque gigs I do around the country, and I barely have time to unpack my suitcase before I have to pack it again for the next trip.
Sometimes the places I’m travelling too aren’t all that glamorous; gigs in Sheffield or Glasgow or Reading, staying in a cheap hostel and grabbing a take away meal are hardly the stuff that traveller’s dreams are made of. But I do all these shows to earn the cash to pay for my real holidays, my big foreign adventures. And I do try to make them adventures – no Costa del Sol or Disneyland for me. I’m more likely to be found helping a friend sell real estate Lebanon or hiking through the Atlas mountains or being smuggled across an illegal border in the back of a truck.
Believe it or not, I have actually done all those things – and most of them involve stories far too long to go into here. This year, I’m keeping things fairly sensible and going to Las Vegas with some mates. It maybe a little too touristy for my liking, but I fancy trying out gambling and checking out some of their burlesque shows. Who knows, I might even get a job out there…
